Lake Okeechobee is a World-Renown Bass Fishing lake in Florida. Many fishermen have this unbelievable and beautiful lake on their bucket list to fish. Florida is flooded with endless freshwater lakes but there is only one that triumphs all of them. Lake Okeechobee is the largest lake in the state of Florida. Okeechobee covers 730 square miles of prime bass fishing. You can access the lake from several locations but there are three that remain famous: Okeechobee City, Clewiston and Belle Glade. All of these locations provide a uniquely different aspect and experience to Florida bass fishing.
In order to find extreme success, you have to discover Lake Okeechobee with a local expert. Each location requires similar but different knowledge that will allow you to read and interpret the water. These skills are pertinent in order to have success catching trophy bass. Captain Hunter Weston has spent years fishing the north end of Lake Okeechobee out of Okeechobee City. Those years has allowed him to key in on all the patterns every season.
Captain Hunter had the pleasure of fishing with Stefan and his two sons, Lucas and Tobias. They were traveling from Germany in order to experience Lake Okeechobee Bass Fishing. Captain Hunt had the privilege to show them around the lake and all it has to offer. Luckily, they had perfect weather that illuminated the resources and provided an exceptional day of fishing.
Water quality was beyond good especially in some key areas. All around Okeechobee City you can find effective water grounds for big bass. The outside grass patches are holding schools of fish that are chasing shad early in the morning. This bite is textbook especially for these late summer months. Most of the bass that hang around these patches were in the range of 1 to 3 pounds.
After picking away at multiple largemouth bass early in the morning, they shifted focus to some heavier cover. Largemouth bass don’t have sunglasses so they have to stay protected and under grass all day long in the summer especially on clear days. Stefan, Lucas and Tobias spent the rest of the day targeting heavier clumps of hyacinth. They plucked away at several more quality bass before setting the hook into their trophy later in the day. As the weather got warmer, the bigger fish began to bite. Lucas caught an absolute beast weighing in at 7 pounds. You truly can’t beat a bite like that when fishing on Lake Okeechobee.
Captain Hunter is looking forward to fishing with this amazing family again next time they visit Florida! The summer bite is still going to be around and is only going to get better as the weather begins to cool.
Lake Okeechobee is clear and in great shape. The press has made it look horrible but in reality the bass fishing and conditions on Lake Okeechobee are fantastic. All our locations have been producing great fish. All the algae have been cleared and the lake is looking normal again.
