Bone Fishing:

BONE FISHING! Pound for pound, Bone fish are the hardest fighting fish there is!  Florida boasts one of the largest sub species of bone fish some weighing up to 13 pounds.  Bone  Fish like the warm waters of the shallows and flats; therefore Southern Florida has PRIME bone fishing!

Bone fish are caught on fly rod and light spinning tackle and are stalked by sight! The most vital piece of equipment you can have is a good pair of polarized sun glasses, the ability to carefully watch any movement in the water is imperative! Reflection and glare off the water when sight fishing is not your friend.

Bonefish can by fished by wadding, flats boats, kayak and canoe.  A seasoned bone fish guide is essential to your fishing experience. iOutdoor Captains are the best bone fishermen in the business- they know the mannerisms of these wary fish- and how to pursue them!

Bone fish can be caught on live bait such as shrimp and small crabs. The most effective way is to catch them on fly- which is also the most difficult.  And once you are hooked up- watch out!  You are going to experience a blazing first run and a fight to remember!

What to Bring

Bone fishing is very interactive, so being comfortable and flexible is essential. Wear lose fitting, light colored clothing. Preferably something that will protect you from the sun.  Sunscreen, polarized sunglasses, wide brimmed hat, comfortable non-scuffing shoes. You may also want a light wind breaker or rain jacket. Don’t forget the camera! Also, you should bring your own food and beverages.

Sea Sickness Policy:

Your Bone Fishing adventure will take you to the most beautiful flats Florida has to offer; however, you can still fall victim to sea sickness. Sea sickness is a quick way to ruin anyone’s fishing adventure! If you feel you would be/or know you are prone to sea sickness; take the necessary precautions.  It is generally recognized that taking your sea sickness medicine (per instructions) is best before the launch. It typically has little or no effect once you are already feeling sea sick. Eat something before launch, stay hydrated, and try to keep your body temperature as cool as possible. Limiting alcohol the day before and the day of your fishing trip is also wise.
