As an avid bass fisherwoman in TN, Okeechobee has always been on my bass lake bucket list and then add Mark Shephard as my guide and it couldn’t get much better! Fairly slow in the beginning but we ended up getting on a top water bite and it was game on! I will definitely be back!

The lake was at a record low when i went and pretty much the hardest time of year to fish. Let me tell you it didn't matter. DJ was very knowledgeable and kept me on fish pretty much the whole time. Highly recommend going anytime. It's a beautiful lake and the fish are so beautiful in color.

My son and I went out with Capt. DJ Timms on a recent trip and he was fantastic! Due to our schedule we had to book him for an afternoon trip which was not an ideal time. He quickly got us on a spot where we started catching quality bass right away - right from our first cast! In just a few hours…

Clewiston bass fishing guide
Clewiston sits on the southwest shore of Lake Okeechobee, a shallow lake of about 730 square miles. The south end has some of the lake's widest grass flats and marsh, which hold largemouth bass all year. It is an easy drive from Fort Myers, Naples and the Palm Beach area, so it works well as a day trip.
Where you'll fish
The south-end grass flats are the main water, with eelgrass, hydrilla, reeds and lily pads. The rim canal gives protected water when the wind blows. In summer, guides often work deeper grass edges further out. Your guide confirms the boat ramp before the trip.
How the trips work
Trips run from a bass boat with a trolling motor. Your guide provides rods, reels and artificial lures, and can set you up with live wild shiners, which is often the best way to catch a big bass. Shiners are optional and cost extra; ask your guide when you book. Most bass are photographed and released.
Best time to go
Bass fishing is good all year. Winter and early spring bring the spawn and the best shot at a big fish, and the cooler months are crappie season. In summer, go early for topwater action before the heat and afternoon storms. Fall brings cooler water and active fish.
Tips for planning your trip
- Get your license first. Buy a Florida freshwater fishing license online before the trip and bring it with you.
- Morning trips usually fish best, especially in summer.
- Kids and first-timers do well on a 4-hour trip, often with live shiners for steady action.
- Wind matters. Lake Okeechobee is big and shallow, so your guide may change the plan on windy days.
