New Smyrna Beach is a hot spot for producing countless numbers of trophy classed fish.

The Halifax River is the major waterway that drains and leads to the Mosquito Lagoon. It exits and meets up with the Atlantic Ocean at Ponce de Leon Inlet. This inlet is famous for gateways to the Gulf Stream and exceptional New Smyrna Beach offshore fishing. As the water moves past the inlet, it enters the Indian River. Indian River provides waterways, marshes, estuaries and backwaters for hunting down your favorite inshore fishing species. You can count of catches of Big Bull Red Fish but also gator sea trout, snook, jack crevalles and more!

In order to have a successful day on the water, you have to have some expert knowledge of how to target these species. Our local expert Captains have years of experience learning new ways and effective methods in order to catch the biggest fish out of the Indian River. Trophy Red Fish are common if you know how to target them. When you fish with iOutdoor, you will only get the best Captains that will put you on the fish of your lifetime.

Captain Brad Kayholm is our local expert in New Smyrna Beach. His main focus is putting clients on the biggest inshore species. Dialing in how to catch Trophy Florida Redfish has been a time consuming but rewarding process. Endless smiles, high fives and laughs come from fishing with Captain Brad.

Captain Brad had the pleasure of fishing with his brother Jeff. Some days you have to adventure out with family and put them on their fish of their dreams. One of the most rewarding parts about this fishing trip is that Jeff brought along his 4 year old son, Mason. The original fishing plans were to go offshore but conditions were unpredictable. When this occurs the best bet was to go New Smyrna Beach inshore fishing in hunt for a Red Fish.

One of the lost arts about being in the outdoors and more specifically fishing is patience. Firstly, when you go fishing, you can’t always expect to catch fish. You are not obligated to a fish but putting yourself in the best position to do so. The people that stay patient are usually the ones that are rewarded.

Captain Brad has a repertoire of different locations that produce fish during these next couple of months. Sometimes you have to travel to multiple locations in order to locate where the red fish are moving to. Throughout these next couple of months, live bait will be the most effective method to catching red fish. We would advise using crabs or pin fish in order to target these bigger fish.

Just shortly after casting out our bait, Jeff was hooked up. You could tell that this fish was big as the drag peeled off the reel and the rod was bent. It took several hard runs making for a fight of a lifetime. The first fish Jeff landed was a 47 inch Bull Redfish. It was not long after this fish that Jeff was hooked up again, bringing another trophy Florida redfish to the boat. Jeff caught his second trophy measuring in at 46 inches. You may think this is unheard of but this area in North East Florida is known to produce some of the best redfish fishing in the world.

The best part about Trophy Florida Redfish Fishing was the ability to see and share these special moments with clients or family. Just watching the expressions of Mason as his dad reeled in this monster fish was worth the trip. Mason even laid down next to the fish. The redfish was almost the size of Mason and it was absolutely incredible to be able to show him the potential of our fisheries here in Florida.
