Me my brother and father all went out with Capt. Dave at 6:45 AM and had a great time fishing on our 4 hour trip. We caught about 10 fish and got to explore the Butler chain of lakes with a true professional. We learned a thing or two, laughed together and will certainly recommend you go fishing…

Where you'll fish

Open in Google Maps: Butler Chain · Lake Toho · Port Canaveral

Lakes: bass trips run on the Butler Chain in Windermere, the Conway Chain in south Orlando, Lake Toho and East Lake Toho in Kissimmee and St. Cloud, Lake Kissimmee, the Harris Chain near Leesburg and the Winter Haven Chain. Your guide confirms the boat ramp and start time before the trip.

Coast: offshore trips leave from Port Canaveral, and inshore trips fish the Mosquito Lagoon side of the coast. Both are about an hour's drive east of Orlando.

Planning a fishing trip in Orlando

Orlando sits in the middle of Central Florida's lake country. Bass lakes and chains are a short drive from the theme parks, and the Atlantic coast is about an hour east, so you can fit a few hours on a lake between park days or plan a full day on the ocean.

Lake or coast: how to choose

Choose a bass trip if you want Florida largemouth bass close to your hotel; bass boats take up to 4 people, which suits families and first-timers. Choose a pontoon trip on Lake Toho if your group wants more room and seats. For saltwater, choose inshore for calm lagoon water and redfish, trout and snook, or offshore from Port Canaveral for bigger fish like mahi-mahi, kingfish and sailfish.

Short on time?

Lake Toho in Kissimmee has 2- and 3-hour bass trips, from $250, which fit between park days. Most other lakes run 4, 6 or 8 hours. Coast trips take longer once you add the drive.

The best time of year

Bass bite all year around Orlando. Winter and early spring are trophy season, when big bass move shallow to spawn, and crappie are best in the cooler months. In summer, fish early in the morning before the heat. On the coast, fall brings bull redfish inshore and kingfish and sailfish offshore, and summer is prime for mahi. The Orlando fishing calendar has the month-by-month details.

Good to know before you book

  • Licenses: on freshwater trips each angler 16 or older needs a Florida freshwater fishing license unless exempt. Saltwater trips run under the captain's charter license.
  • Group size: bass boats take up to 4 people. Pontoons have more room for bigger groups.
  • Weather: if the guide or captain cancels for weather, you get a full refund or a free reschedule.
  • Cancellation: free up to 72 hours before your trip.

Orlando fishing questions

How much does a fishing charter in Orlando cost?

Bass trips start at $250 for 2 hours on Lake Toho. Four-hour bass trips start at $300 on the Conway Chain and run up to $400 on the Butler Chain. Pontoon and crappie trips on Lake Toho start at $500. Inshore trips start at $500 for 4 hours, and offshore trips start at $1,000 for 5 hours. The booking calendar shows the exact price for your date and trip.

Where is the closest fishing to Disney World?

The Butler Chain of Lakes in Windermere is the closest of our lakes, a few miles north of the Disney area. Lake Toho in Kissimmee is a short drive southeast. In Build Your Trip, pick where you are staying and the lakes sort by distance.

Can I go fishing between theme park days?

Yes. Lake Toho bass trips start at 2 hours, and most other lakes offer 4-hour trips, so a morning on the water still leaves the afternoon free.

How far is the coast from Orlando?

About an hour's drive east. Offshore trips leave from Port Canaveral, and inshore trips fish the Mosquito Lagoon side of the coast.

Do I need a fishing license?

On freshwater trips, each angler 16 or older needs a Florida freshwater fishing license unless exempt. Saltwater inshore and offshore trips run under the captain's charter license, which covers all guests.

What's included in an Orlando fishing charter?

Freshwater trips include the guide, boat, fuel, life jackets, rods, reels, tackle and artificial lures. Saltwater trips include a licensed captain, a fishing license for each guest, rods, reels, tackle, bait and fuel. Not included: the guide's tip (10–20% is customary), food and drinks, and a freshwater fishing license.

Are fishing trips good for kids and first-timers?

Yes. Bass trips take up to 4 people and suit families and first-timers, a pontoon gives a bigger group more room, and inshore trips stay in calm, protected water. The guide sets up the rods and helps every step of the way.

What happens if the weather is bad?

If the guide or captain cancels for weather, you get a full refund or a free reschedule.

What is the cancellation policy?

You can cancel for free up to 72 hours before your trip.

When is the best time to fish in Orlando?

Bass bite all year. Winter and early spring are trophy season, when big bass move shallow to spawn. On the coast, fall is great for redfish, kingfish and sailfish, and summer for mahi.
